Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Church is a house of God dedicated
to His mother, Mary. It is a Maronite Church, one of the Eastern-Rite
churches that are entirely in communion with Rome. The liturgy is said
in the English and the Aramaic languages. The consecration of the bread
and wine is chanted in Aramaic, the same language that Christ spoke.
The Maronite Church takes its name from St. Maron, a holy hermit and monk who
lived in the vicinity of Antioch in the second half of the 4th century. He and his
followers courageously defended the Catholic doctrine in the area.
Our Lady of the Cedars is a parish church that serves the people's spiritual
needs and religious activities from birth to death. It is a parish that
gathers the joys and hopes of its members, and their anguish and sadness as well. Planted in
the heart of this beautiful city in times of struggle for survival in business as well as
life, Our Lady of the Cedars welcomes those who will find in this sanctuary, a place of
serenity where the human and the supernatural meet.
This house of prayer is unique in its setting, in its calmness and in the simplicity and
beauty of its design. It invites those passing by and those who were once baptized in its fonts
as well as those whose business destiny brought them to the outskirts of its boundaries, to
pause and remember that the church is not walls and buildings alone; the church is rather, a whole
community whose interior light is God himself, who invites us to take a moment out of our busy
schedules to stop and pray.
